Launching an online store is exciting, and it is tempting to switch it on as soon as the products are uploaded. A little preparation before launch saves a lot of lost orders and customer messages afterwards. This is the checklist we work through for every Shopify store we set up.

Store foundations

1. Choose a clean, mobile-first theme. Pick a theme that suits your products and looks good on a phone. Most of your shoppers will browse on mobile, so preview every page on a small screen.

2. Connect your domain. Use your own domain rather than the default myshopify address. It looks more professional and is easier to remember.

3. Set up payments. Turn on the payment methods your customers actually use. In Pakistan, that often means offering cash on delivery alongside card or wallet payments. Place a test order with each method.

4. Configure shipping. Set clear shipping rates and delivery areas. If you offer free shipping above a certain order value, say so on the product pages and in the cart.

Products and content

5. Write product descriptions for buyers. Explain what the product is, who it is for, the size or specifications, and how to care for it. Answer the questions a customer would ask in a shop.

6. Use consistent, high-quality photos. Use the same background and lighting for every product, show multiple angles, and compress the images so pages load quickly.

7. Organise collections. Group products the way customers think, for example by category, occasion or price range, so they can find what they want in a few taps.

8. Add essential pages. Every store needs an About page, a Contact page, and clear Shipping, Returns and Privacy policies. Customers check these before buying from a new brand.

Trust and conversion

9. Make the checkout simple. Remove unnecessary steps and fields. Check that the cart, discount codes and order confirmation emails all work.

10. Add trust signals. Show genuine reviews, secure payment badges, your contact details and a clear returns policy. These reassure first-time buyers.

Tracking and marketing

11. Install tracking before you advertise. Connect Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel so you can see where visitors come from and which campaigns lead to sales.

12. Plan your launch. Prepare launch posts, a short video or reel, and a simple offer for your first customers. Tell your existing followers and contacts before you spend on ads.

After launch

Your store will keep improving after launch. Review which products get views but no sales, read customer questions, and update your pages based on what you learn.
